Did You Know with the CEO

IPERS CEO Greg Samorajski answers frequently asked questions and shares information to help Iowans understand the state’s largest public retirement system on the new “Did You Know with the CEO” page on IPERS’ website. The page also links to an opinion piece published in several Iowa newspapers in early September. It highlights how IPERS supports Iowa’s public workforce.

Update your contact information in My Account

My Account is your retirement toolkit and the place to ensure that IPERS has your most up-to-date contact information. When you log in to My Account you can update your mailing address, email address or phone number. IPERS recommends that you provide personal contact information in My Account, so you remain connected to IPERS throughout your retirement. Learn more about My Account on IPERS’ website

Is your beneficiary information current?

During retirement you may want to change the beneficiary(ies) entitled to retirement benefit payments upon your death. You can update your beneficiary designation – including the beneficiary’s contact information - anytime in My Account. IPERS recommends checking your beneficiary designation routinely to make sure that IPERS can contact your beneficiary(ies) at your death.

Keeping your beneficiary’s information current helps IPERS pay death benefits accurately and promptly. Remember if you chose retirement benefit payment option 4 or 6 on your Application for IPERS Monthly Retirement Benefits, you designated a contingent annuitant rather than a beneficiary. The contingent annuitant cannot change.

Important end of the year mailings

As we approach the end of 2025, look for important mail from IPERS, including Income Verification Letters and Form 1099-R. All recipients will receive these documents by mail. Having the most updated contact information associated with your account ensures that you receive these documents promptly. Call IPERS or use My Account to update your contact information.

Snowbirds: update your winter address

If you receive IPERS benefits, and plan on traveling away from home for the winter, it’s best to keep IPERS updated with even temporary address changes. Retirees can update their address for their “winter home” in My Account, or by calling IPERS. This ensures we can contact you, no matter the season or where life takes you.

Be alert for fraud

IPERS members can find a list of useful tips to help you know when mail, email or a phone call is from IPERS rather than a fraudster.

Remember that IPERS does not solicit or accept personally identifiable information through email and rarely makes outbound calls to members.

If you believe you have received communication from a fraudulent sender or caller, report this immediately using the form on our website, or call IPERS at 800-622-3849.
