The Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System (IPERS) seeks applicants for the Public Citizen Member position on its Benefits Advisory Committee (BAC). This is an excellent opportunity for an engaged Iowan—someone who is not an IPERS member but possesses relevant pension related experience—to contribute to the administration of IPERS benefits.
About the Benefits Advisory Committee
The BAC serves as a key advisory body to IPERS, providing a channel for employers and employees to help shape policies and recommendations related to retirement, death and disability benefits and related services. The Committee consists of eight voting members, four representing employers and four representing employees plus one voting Public Citizen Representative who is not an IPERS member but brings meaningful pension expertise to the group.
Role of the Public Citizen Member
The Public Citizen Member:
Serves as a voting member of the Committee.
Offers an independent perspective on pension design, member services and long-term system sustainability.
Participates in discussions and recommendations that support IPERS’ mission to provide secure retirement benefits for Iowa’s public workforce.
Serves a three-year term, elected by the eight voting members of the BAC.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will:
Have professional experience or significant knowledge related to pension systems, retirement plan design, actuarial or financial analysis, public administration or similar fields.
Be able to evaluate information objectively and contribute constructively in a collaborative, diverse stakeholder environment.
Demonstrate strong communication skills and a commitment to public service.
