Jim Romar is a retired West Des Moines Police Department detective, currently serving as the locals political coordinator and lobbyist. Romar joined the Teamsters Local 238 union in 1980. Mr. Romar joined the U.S. Army after high school and served stateside and overseas. He left the Army in 1976. Romar is a certified instructor in Driving, Defensive Tactics and Firearms. He has also attended numerous Teamsters conferences over the years and worked as a national field representative in the Public Services Division.

Mr. Romar was appointed to two terms on the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy governing council and co-authored the Iowa Police and Fire Bill of Rights
